Dropbox first impressions as a backup utility

I’ve been using Dropbox for around an hour or so now and I’m impressed by the Linux client.

I have a really great VPS host at the moment but they’re new so I’m skeptical, I don’t want to lose all my data so I’ve started backing it up on Dropbox. It’s a rather elegant yet simple method.

1. Install Dropbox on the Linux machine.
2. Don’t sync anything apart from your Backup folder.
3. Create symbolic links in the ~/Dropbox/Backup/ folder to everything you want to backup.
4. Start dropboxd with the python helper script.

As I speak, Prismriver Cinema is being synchronized – albeit pretty slowly to Dropbox.
